What Not to Do

Do not use a vaginal douche. This is an unhealthy and pointless practice because the vagina has a natural balance of bacteria, which should regulate itself. Cleaning the area with water disturbs this balance. Actually, the use of douches is only common in the USA, most people in the rest of the world don't even know what it is. During a yeast infection, the douche can be used to apply some herbal remedies, such tea tree oil, apple cider vinegar, or hydrogen peroxide - all mixed with water.

Do not apply baking soda to relieve itching. This is an alkali and will raise the pH, making it a better place for the yeast to grow.

Do not apply Nivea cream to a yeast infection. This increases the burning sensation, causing a lot of pain. It is also very difficult to then wash off because of the way it absorbs into the skin.

Do not use echinacea capsules on a yeast infection. This will cause extreme pain.
